Massive infrastructural development in Gurgaon is necessitating a lot of changes, and not all have found easy acceptance among residents. One such development is the shifting of the crematorium that was situated on NH 8 to another place close-by.

The crematorium on the highway was obstructing the construction of the Iffco Chowk U-turn, and hence the decision to shift.

Shifted to a 1,000-square-yard plot in the same area in Sector 29, the site is almost half of what it used to be, and the narrow lanes leading to it are congested as well.

“The crematorium on NH 8 had a lot of space, and it was easy to reach. The vehicles of people who came for the last rites could be easily parked. It’s not going to be the same any longer,” said Rashmi Baweja, a resident of Sector 17C.

Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) councillor of the area, Anoop Singh, said, “We have requested the authorities several times to relocate the crematorium to a place that’s easily accessible. But we didn’t get any positive response.”
