Overgrown grass and hedges on vacant plots near societies has become a cause of concern for residents. But civic agencies have, yet again, turned a blind eye.

President of Akash Ganga Apartments, Sector 6, JC Vashishtha, said, “There is a vacant plot just beside our society — it is full of wild grass and bushes. It’s both a security concern and a health hazard. It’s the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes and civic agencies should clear up such vacant plots promptly.”

But the problem is not restricted to vacant plots.

Wild grass at turns hampers visibility. Also, the hedges on the central verge have become dense and tall, impacting visibility to the other side. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sector 10, said, "At many places, you need to make a blind U-turn, like near Sector 14 Metro station.”

Similarly, along Road No. 202 from police chowki in Sector 3 till the signals of Sectors 3, 4, 12, 13, wild overgrowth has badly affected visibility. The scene is the same for service lanes.

Rakesh Kumar, RWA president of Vinayak Apartments in Sector 10, said, “Recently, we raised the issue at the police-public meet in Sector 5. They said a letter has already been sent to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on the subject."

Director of horticulture, DDA, YD Sharma, confirmed to City Spidey that pruning and cleaning of wild grass and wild overgrowth has already started in several areas.
