On the third year of Swachh Bharat Mission, RWA of Richmond Park in DLF Phase IV, Gurgaon, was awarded for its commitment towards solid waste management.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, gave out the award at Vigyan Bhawan yesterday.

The award is meant to provide encouragement to RWAs to increase their participation in Swachh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A central team had visited the condominium to examine the entire process of segregation and management. In fact, the society had been the first in the line to start such initiatives.

“In a month, we are able to segregate almost 4,200 kg of wet and horticulture waste. We sent our nomination and have been fortunate to bag the award,” said Veena Padmanabhan, a resident.

RWA secretary NC Sinha added with pride, “We were among the first ones to set up compost plants for treating waste way back in 2014.”

And many societies in Gurgaon followed the lead.
