The women of Samachar Apartments, in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension, are stepping up to make the society a cleaner and greener place.

Of the view that due to their busy schedules, the managing committee members cannot pay heed to the society’s day-to-day issues, the women, headed by Rita Benzamin, decided to take the onus themselves. They began work on the society’s premises on October 2. They even roped in children to help them.

Now, the group has written a letter to the society’s managing committee to inform them of their plan.

“We have started a cleaning campaign, and intend to carry a cleaning drive once every month. Our only motive is to have a clean, pretty society,” said Benzamin.

She added, “The women will be field workers and will keep a check on things that may evade the managing committee’s attention. They will work as the society’s watchdogs.”

The women are also of the opinion that the managing committee should include more women. “There are only two women in the 15-member managing committee. This ratio should really change,” said a woman of the group, on condition of anonymity.
