It will be a happy Diwali for trans-Hindon Noida residents as they will start receiving Ganga Jal supply from October 22.
On October 19 midnight, UP irrigation department will release Ganga water, which will then be treated at the Pratap Vihar water-treatment plant. From here water will be supplied to residential colonies. The colonies to benefit include Vaishali, Vasundhara, Kaushambi, Indirapuram and parts of Noida.
Ganga Jal Nigam had suspended water supply from September 27 for maintenance. The disruption of Ganga water supply, however, did not affect high-rises in the area. But it left the residents of row houses stranded and at the mercy of bottled water suppliers. Speaking to City Spidey, residents of Vaishali, Vasundhara, Kaushambi and areas like Nyay Khand in Indirapuram said that the water from the Ganga Jal supply is primarily used for cooking and drinking. “In such a scenario we must buy three 20-litre bottles every two days,” said Jaya Gupta, a Kaushambi resident.
Gupta further said that the suppliers had also hiked the price of the bottled water. “Bottles which would normally cost Rs 40 now cost between Rs 55 and Rs 70. It is also the festive season. All the festivals are lined up one after another,” she added and water consumption peaks during this time.
