To enforce discipline on roads, Gurgaon traffic police observed Zero Tolerance Day in the city yesterday.

There are two aspects of this day: First, an awareness drive where people are educated about various traffic rules and the associated challans; and second, enforcement, where challans are issued to offenders.

Yesterday was enforcement day, and traffic officials were seen issuing challans at various important points in the city.

Speaking to City Spidey, Simardeep Singh, DCP traffic, said, “We keep these drives twice a month —  one day for awareness and the other for enforcement of rules.”

Till 6 pm yesterday, 20,821 vehicles were challaned, and the penalty money collected totalled Rs 22,16,700.  The number of vehicles impounded by the police stood at 282.
