In a bid to up the cleanliness quotient of the city, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation will now take strict action against those who dump garbage in public places. It will also take steps to clear out garbage from public areas.
CP Singh, municipal commissioner of Ghaziabad, told City Spidey that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is preparing a plan to improve cleanliness in the cities adjacent to Delhi-NCR. “A meeting was held on the issue with the ministry. All officers of Delhi-NCR municipal corporations were present during the meeting.”
Singh said if a person threw or burnt garbage in a public place, the city corporation would both file a case and fine the culprit. He added, “Most people go out in the dark and dump garbage wherever they want — they feel they can do so under the cover of darkness. We are indeed chalking out a plan that will ensure that residents are unable to do so. And if they do, they will be caught.”
The measure resonates with the Centre’s Clean India Mission.
However, only time will tell how effective the measure will be, or how residents will respond to such a ban.
