A mini schoolbus — Force Traveller — carrying 12 students of Vishwa Bharti School in Sector 28, Noida, overturned near Golf Course Metro station at 7.30 am today. The driver, a 31-year-old man named Matand, was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at a nearby private hospital.

Some locals rescued the children and teachers by breaking the windows of the bus.

According to Layak Singh, traffic inspector, the bus (UP 16 DT 5648) was moving towards Noida around 7 am when an auto suddenly appeared in front of it. The driver, in his effort to prevent a head-on collision, lost control of the vehicle and turned turtle.

Anjali Rajdhan, a faculty member, told City Spidey, “This minibus was a private arrangement by some parents. It had 12 children and two schoolteachers, also arranged privately. Thankfully, only two children received minor injuries and the school’s medical officer attended to them promptly.”

However, according to a passer-by, there were about 30 to 35 schoolchildren in the vehicle. He also confirmed the traffic inspector’s account of the incident.
