In order to share a little bit of warmth, the Apartment Owners Association (AOA) of Gaur Global Village in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad, has started a clothes-collection drive to make the winter a little warmer for the less-fortunate citizens. This drive is being conducted as a joint effort of the AOA and Goonj, an NGO working towards channelling urban surplus towards rural areas.
Sangeeta Singh, joint secretary of the society’s AOA, told City Spidey that she came across the NGO and its initiatives during one of her company’s CSR initiatives. “I got to know about the initiative during a CSR programme and decided to introduce it at the society level,” Singh said. “Our society is a collection point in Ghaziabad for anyone who wishes to donate their surplus clothing, which will then be taken by the NGO,” Singh said.
For now, apart from residents of Gaur Global Village, consignments of donated clothing have come in from Indirapuram and a few other societies as well. However, Singh, maintained that queries from across Ghaziabad have been coming in asking what and how they can participate.
Singh, who had decided to volunteer with the NGO, said that the drive would last till January 8. “We had also conducted a workshop in our society to spread awareness regarding this initiative."
