Local bodies in Delhi, including the municipal corporations, have been asked by Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to give it details of the number of commercial activities operating from residential colonies without a municipal corporation licence. A report on these details is to be submitted by March 15.
DPCC has also directed civic bodies to not issue no-objection certificates (NOCs) or licences to commercial activities without its prior nod.
The decision comes after the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) asked DPCC to give it the same details, which DPCC then passed on to the local bodies. It also directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to submit details on the number of water connections given to residential colonies in past six months.
According to a notification issued by DPCC member secretary SM Ali to the municipal bodies, power distribution companies and DJB, “All government agencies, such a municipal corporations, Delhi Jal Board and discoms, shall not grant any licence or permission, or any electricity, water or sewer connection to industries or commercial units without having a DPCC consent.”
“Senior officials of respective zones have been directed to prepare this report. EDMC has also written a letter to the Delhi government requesting it to direct the SDM offices to provide help,” said PK Khandelwal, chief engineer, EDMC.
