Like the corporation dustbins, the benches, too, have been placed without much thought in Dwarka. Placed haphazardly and without much research, the benches are, in fact, a waste of space and public money.

Some benches have been placed near illegal vendors — tea stalls, juice stalls, street chat vendors and others. Jitendra Singh, a resident of Sector 4, said, “Look at the benches around Ashirvad Chowk, and you will understand the lack of planning. The SDMC should have placed them with proper survey, keeping the rules and norms for the market in mind.”

A lot of the benches are not even accessible. For instance, they are placed in parking areas, where nobody would really sit — it’s difficult to reach the bench through the parked bikes. Some benches have been placed in the row meant for planting trees.  A resident of Sector 5, Rakesh Verma, said, “Why did the SDMC place the benches so thoughtlessly — such a waste of money!”

Residents have been discussing the issue on various residents’ Whatsapp groups and other social platforms

When City Spidey contacted SDMC mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat, she assured, “I will look into the matter, and demand an explanation for why the benches have not been placed properly.”
