For a comprehensive implementation of waste segregation initiatives, a considerable amount of training and hand-holding is required at the ground level. This can be done through workshops, plays and even painting competitions largely involving women and children.
"Moreover, the government has to demonstrate its preparedness for such initiatives by having proper by-laws etc," says Rajiva Singh, president NOFAA. He elaborates on how people need to be made aware of the different treatment techniques for wet and dry waste. Dry waste essentially falls within the purview of the civic authorities while composting wet waste is the responsibility of residents.
