A delegation of members from Ghaziabad RWAs on Friday appealed to mayor Ashu Verma to ride a bicycle to office on the next car-free day, May 10.

Verma assured them of his support, saying he would also encourage his wards to do so.

RWAs in the city have started preparing for the day. Some RWAs have decided to present jute bags and saplings to people who agree to give their cars a rest on the day.

RK Sharma, a resident of Panchvati colony, told City Spidey that Vijay Nagar zone will be the main focus area on May 10. There will be several teams to monitor areas such as Chanakya check post in Sector 9, Vijay Nagar bypass, Swadeshi check post and Mohan Nagar.

The RWA federation has also created a Facebook page and a WhatsApp group to spread awareness of the car-free day. Ghaziabad traffic police, the UP transport department and the city bus federation have promised to lend the initiative their support.
