Rampant burning of dry leaves and garbage all over Dwarka is having a major impact on our environment.
I reside in Balaji Apartments Sector 3. There is a DDA park behind my society where hundreds of people and kids spend their leisure time.
However, nowadays, it has become a common practice to burn garbage in the green area situated near the park. The problem is so serious that at times it becomes tough to even breathe in the park.
Fines have been imposed on burning of garbage in the open. However, as most of the times, this sort of activity is done during the morning hours, it becomes tough to catch the perpetrators.
Are people not aware of the fact that burning of garbage leads to air pollution, which in turn can create acute breathing problems?
Is the government really keeping a check on it? Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was introduced in order to keep city clean. However, does controlling the open burning of garbage not fall under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan?.
DDA and South Delhi Municipal Corporation have introduced many helpline numbers and new schemes to maintain parks. However, all of this is of no use if people continue to burn garbage and dry leaves in the open.
As the World Environment Day is around the corner, I want to request the authorities to take adequate steps regarding this issue.
