The environment lovers in Dwarka have come forward in support of save trees campaign in South Delhi. They have joined the “Chipko Movement of Delhi” to stop the chopping of more than 16,000 trees in the national capital.
Volunteers of Green Circle NGO and other environment enthusiasts started the campaign at Sector-6 DDA Park on Sunday.
People, wearing green T-shirts and taking placards in their hands, raised slogans against the proposed cutting of the tree. City Spidey interacted with the people who were on their way to protest at Sarojini Nagar.
President of Green Circle and a resident of Diamond Square Apartments in Sector-6, V Selvarajan said, “We will be carrying this campaign in Dwarka to support the campaign to save the 16,000 trees. On weekend, we will carry out “hug the tree and save” campaign to show how important they are.”
A senior citizen from Harsukh Apartments in Sector-7, Ravi Jaitely said, “We will make all possible efforts to save the trees. We don’t want chopping of 16,000 trees in a polluted city such as Delhi.”
