Vaishali Metro station is all set to open a banquet hall in the empty plot within its compound. The Metro management has allotted the space to a private company to construct the hall.

The property development wing chose the area as it was lying vacant for several years.

The banquet hall will have a dedicated parking space for two- and four-wheeler vehicles and will be available for hosting wedding ceremonies and other social events. Metro officials said that people can now get down at the Metro station and attend an event right there.

However, residents of Vaishali think it is just a way to make money. Vaishali Metro station, being the last on the blue line, sees a heavy footfall of commuters every day. They feel that setting up a banquet hall will add to the traffic congestion in the area.

Speaking to City Spidey, Manoj Goyal, a resident of Vaishali, said that usually weddings are held between 6 pm and 11 pm, which coincides with the daily rush hour at the Metro station. "This is sure to cause chaos in the neighbourhood," added Goyal.
