Aiming to improve security in Dwarka, the local police on Saturday held a programme, talking about the need to promote and adopt their community policing scheme ‘Prahari’ to maintain law and order in the sub city.
The programme, which was held at Sector 23 police station, was attended by private security guards and members of RWAs and management of residential societies.
The security guards shared their experiences about how they have many a times not only saved property and avoided thefts, but also saved lives of the residents. Such bravehearts were honoured by the police with a certificate of appreciation.
According to the guards, one of biggest problems faced by them is keeping a check on who enters and exits the society gates. Vinod Rawat, president of Metro View Apartments in Sector 13, said, “Many times, visitors coming to the society and even taxi drivers misbehave with the guards. People argue and fight with guards when they try to stop vehicles without designated stickers from entering the premises.”
VK Kapoor, vice president of New Anamika Apartments in Sector 4, said the lack of police presence in service lanes has become a major concern, as they have become ideal spots for crimes like chain snatching and vehicle theft.
Anto Alphonse, DCP Dwarka, said the police will now train these guards and take them along for joint patrolling at night. He also directed local beat officers to ensure that every guard in their area had their number to contact in case of an emergency. “Prahari scheme aims to integrate these guards with the police to ensure better policing. In the past, we have organised four training programmes for the guards and going forward, it would be done periodically,” he said.
