Here’s something interesting coming up for Gurgaonites — a quirky camera museum, with than 1,000 cameras and photographs, is likely to open sometime this month in Chakkarpur village near DLF Phase 4.
The same was confirmed by MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav this week.
The museum, first of its kind for the city, will house the work of city-based photographer Aditya Arya. It will display portable cameras manufactured between 1880 and 1990 as well as photographs of historic moments chronicling India’s freedom struggle, Non-Aligned Movement, Sino-India War and Muslim League meetings, among others.
Arya’s collection also includes spy cameras used in World War 1 and similar cameras used in World War 2.
Commenting on this unique cultural initiative, MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav said, “Let’s hope this place becomes a popular destination for tourists. We are expecting the project to be completed by next month.”
Arya’s collection had caught the attention of MCG officials in April 2016 — and the plan to execute up a camera-based museum was set in motion.
Initially, the museum was expected to be completed by November 2016, but was put on the backburner until November 2017 due to a delay in sanctioning of funds.
In November 2017, the MCG and Arya had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project.
