Residents of Hindustan Times, Sahyog, Akashdarshan and Uno Apartments of Mayur Vihar Phase I are concerned over encroachment of road by unauthorised fast foods stalls, roadside vegetable venders and hundreds of rickshaws standing right outside the Phase 1 Metro Station. These hawkers cause inconvenience to commuters and create chaos on the road.

The road that separates the Metro station from the apartments is in a complete mess. Traffic congestion coupled with chaos and confusion created by the hawkers often leads to road rage. Residents have taken up the issue with the police and civic agencies, but they did not do anything beyond offering assurances.

“The area, which once used to be calm and serene, has become a noisy mess. Autos, cycle- and e-rickshaws parked alongside the road leaves no space for the movement of vehicles. Unauthorised food stalls and vegetable vends have made it all the more chaotic,” rued RK Aggrawal, treasurer of Hindustan Times Apartments.

Echoing similar views, Ashok Aggrawal, President, Akashdarshan Apartment, said, “In the evening, it is impossible to walk outside the society. Many a time, senior citizens have to hire a rickshaw to visit the market which is at a walking distance. Earlier, the police had deployed traffic constables to streamline traffic and issue chalans to traffic violators and vegetable venders on our complaint, but that did not continue for long.”

Additionally, the residents are worried about a liquor shop that has come up near Ahlcon Public School. They have decided to take the issue with the Delhi Governments soon.
