Residents of Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Pocket 5, are a worried lot these days and the cause for their concern is the contaminated water that they are being supplied.

According to them, it has been over two months since this problem began but the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has not addressed the issue.

YN Chaubey, acting president of the RWA, said, “The attitude of DJB officials is lackadaisical towards this problem. Over two months have passed but no action has been taken. Even after installing ROs (RO filters), water remains contaminated and we are forced to drink this water.”

RN Sharma, executive member of the association, added, “This has happened for the first time in the area. There was no complaint regarding water earlier but we are concerned about it now as it may cause several health complications in future. Our MLA Raju Dhingan is also not paying attention towards our grievances.”

Residents say during the last rainy season, people in nearby colonies faced the same problem and there was an increase in cases of typhoid and jaundice. More than 3,200 residents living in 805 flats are affected by the problem.
