RESIDENT SPEAK: 'DJB should work instead of holding workshops on water issues'

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Tuesday organised a workshop to aware the people of the sub-city of various ways to save and store water. Officials of the department concerned, through lectures and powerpoint presentations, explained the general public about various methods to practice rainwater harvesting and ways to use wastewater.

But if you look at the state of water management in the sub-city, the workshop was a mere formality and even, a tasteless joke! One can easily find leaking pipelines all across the area. Wastage of thousands of litres of water every day is simply failing a good meaning initiative by the water department. In such a scenario, what is the point of conducting such workshops if the authority itself is not able to curb the problem in the first place?

DJB is well aware of the persisting problems but seems to give no heed to the issue. This is a serious matter that needs to be addressed promptly. Officials of the board should ensure that not even a single drop of water gets wasted, only then these workshops will make an impact in the community and sensitise people about water conservation.
