More than six hours of power cut made lives of the Greater Noida based high-rise, Eco-Village 1, residents difficult as they were forced to use the Diesel Generator (DG) backup, which costs them around Rs 22 per unit.

A resident said that the power cut, which happened around 9.00 am, was initially assumed as a fault.

Residents claimed that the power supply was disconnected by the NPCL (Greater Noida), as the management had failed to pay the electricity bills. "After a few hours of the power cut when we called to inquire NPCL, it was told that the power was disconnected due to non-payment of electricity bills," said another resident.

NPCL official, on the condition of anonymity, said, "Earlier the management was earlier informed about not clearing their dues. Later when the power supply was discontinued, they paid the bills."
