Diwali is synonymous with sweets. It is the time for family reunions, lighted diyas, colourful rangoli, vibrant apparels, and mouth-watering sweets - all symbolic of the happy occasion. During the festival, households gear up for the preparation of special sweets and delicacies.

I am sharing here the recipe of our traditional sweet, Mysore Pak, which is prepared every year in our house on Diwali.

Recipe for Mysore Pak

Ingredients
Besan : 250 grams
Sugar : 500 grams
Ghee : 250 grams
Water : 250 ml

Method:

  1. Place a wide deep pan on a burner. Heat the pan and add sugar and water.
  2. Keep stirring until sugar dissolves in water.
  3. Now add ghee and besan in batches and keep stirring to avoid formation of lumps.
  4. Now put the flame on medium or sim and keep adding ghee and sugar alternatively and continously stir it.
  5. After 30-35 mins you will notice the mixture leaving the sides and crystallisation of sugar with white edges.
  6. Switch off the flame and immediately transfer the mixture into a greased plate.
  7. Leave it around for two hours. Cut it into desired pieces when the mixture is hot.
