Delhi: The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Friday abolished development charges on water and sewer connection for all consumers in the city. The decision was taken with an objective to increase water and sewer network in the city.

An official talking to CitySpidey said it was observed that residents living in unauthorised colonies used to avoid regular connection due to the hefty Rs 10,000 development charge each on water and sewer connections.

He said, “The residents of unauthorised colonies belong to lower strata of the society who find it difficult to pay development charges. Many people are reluctant to take regular connection because of this. The decision is intended to encourage people to take water and sewer connections.”

The DJB has also discontinued infrastructural charges (IFC) for water and sewer connections in residential/ domestic category (category-I) .

“Discontinuance of IFC for water and sewer connections in Category-I will also facilitate regularisation of connections,” the official said.

Levy of infrastructural Charges for commercial consumers was already waived in 2016-17 under ease of doing business.
