The Confederation of NCR Residents Welfare Associations (CONRWA), an apex body of resident organisations, is set to hold a mega convocation in August to put forth residents' pressing concerns before top-level officers and ministers of the departments concerned. The decision was taken at the association’s executive committee meeting held on April 17.
During the meeting, PS Jain, president of CONRWA, said, “Minister and secretary of the departments concerned will be invited for the convocation and the speakers will raise their concerns before them.”
Medical services and substandard food items are top issues on the agenda for the event. Jain said, “Substandard food items are sold in markets and they are harmful to health. When a patient goes to hospital, the hospital administration charges exorbitantly. We will demand action against these practices that harass the common man.”
Identifying a new water resource to cope up with the scarcity of potable water in the NCR is also part of the agenda.
Anil Sharma, secretary of the association, said, “The confederation will mount pressure for formation of an education regulatory commission to ensure that quality education is within the reach of every citizen. Private schools have shifted their attention from imparting education to making profit. They have been increasing fee with each passing year and have made good education out of reach for the poor.”
“The confederation will also insist on effective implementation of solid waste management in every city to help reduce pollution. This will enhance the greenery in the cities,” Sharma added.
