Swacch Survey: Residents to cast votes on six options

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) is all set to conduct random cleanliness survey of the areas under its jurisdiction. During the survey, residents will be given six options to cast their votes on cleanliness of their respective societies.

Swachh Survey is an annual feature to measure cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan which aims to make India clean and open defecation free country.

The survey will be conducted by the Union Ministry of Urban Development. The NDMC has conducted a training session to alert concerned RWAs and market associations to better their performance in the survey.

Anil Prakash, a senior engineer with the NDMC, said, “There will be six options for residents to cast their vote for the cleanliness of his/her society. Residents who are above the age of 18 years can cast their votes.”

The survey will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, an observer will randomly check the cleanliness on 38 points. In the second phase, he would be voting the segment in which six options are put together to compile voting.

The first option will be through Citizen Mobile App to rank sanitation and cleanliness.  

Volunteers can also conduct face-to-face survey of the residents. Nine questions regarding cleanliness and sanitation would be posed to the residents.

One can get a call from the toll-free number 1969 for submission of the points on cleanliness of his/her area. The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has registered the numbers of all the residents and may directly call them for a feedback. 

Votes and marks can also be given online through a portal.

Experts said that MoUD will also give extra points for any innovative work in the society. Energy saving methods and air pollution related techniques can also fetch good ranking for a society.

Last year, RK Ashram, a Sector 9 society, scored better because of bio-compost initiative. In Nizamuddin, a park is made from waste materials. Initiatives such as these could help increase the points of societies.
