New Delhi: The winter vacation has turned out to be a great opportunity for children to participate in outdoor activities. They are enthusiastically participating in the inter-society sports tournament Sparkle 2019-20 which is being organised after a gap of ten years.

Children, belonging to various societies, participated in Karate, on-spot painting competition, Chess, Table Tennis, Badminton, Carrom etc. They are also getting prizes and medals at the tournament.

The initiative of Federation of Group Housing Society, IP Extension, was aimed at engaging children in sports by bringing them out of their houses. After a gap of ten years, the Federation organised this sports activity.

Resident of Kirpal Apartment and General Secretary of Federation, Ajay Gupta said, “The inter society sports tournament commenced from December 22 and will end on February 9 with prize distribution. It was organised in the memory of the President of the Federation Keshwanand.”

“Children are excited to participate in the tournament. We received more than 1,500 entries from 18 societies. This tournament is a good and healthy escape from the digital world,” he added.

General physician  of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Dr Atul Gogoi said, “It is need of the time to get the children involved in physical activities. They are getting obese due to lack of physical activities. They are also encountering eye problems due to staring on the screens for long hours. Societies and schools should come forward with physical fitness programmes.”
