Ghaziabad: The 71st Republic Day on January 26, 2020 galling on Saturday might upset the plans for weekend chill of the Generations X and Y of the town, especially those given to boozing, a little bit. The excise department of Ghaziabad has already declared a dry day on January 26.
A statement issued by the office of Ghaziabad district magistrate states that all liquor shops – country-made and foreign liquor, beer, and model shops — will remain closed on January 26.
A similar direction came from the district administration of Gautam Budh Nagar as well. Noida excise department informed that liquor shops will remain closed there too.
Besides, in order to ensure compliance of the directive, the excise departments in both the cities have formed teams to conduct inspections on ground, said excise officials.
Mubarak, an excise inspector, said that the team will immediately "seize and challan” if any violation was seen. "If found guilty a hefty penalty will be imposed on both the seller and purchaser of liquor on January 26," he said.
In view of the dry day ahead, tipplers in both the cities are bound to buy their stock in advance as they have been doing for the rainy days.
