Gurugram: The 71st Republic Day was celebrated across the city with patriotic fervour on Sunday. Several RWAs and social organisations marked the occasion with flag hoisting ceremonies in society premises and neibhourhood parks. 

But the highlight of the celebrations was the myriad cultural programmes that were planned days in advance. These programmes involving children depicted the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India. 

Corona Optus, Sector 37 C

The Republic Day celebrations at Corona Optus, a residential society in Sector 37 C, began with the flag hoisting ceremony followed by the reciting of the national anthem.

On the occasion, several sports activities were organised for the residents. Children, along with women and senior citizens, took part in various fun races. Besides, group dance, song and skit were performed to mark the celebration.

Sare Homes, Sector 92

The Republic Day at Sare Homes was all about women empowerment. The flag hoisting ceremony was a all-girl affair. Class X toppers among female students were assigned the task. What's more, RWA of the society felicitated an all-woman group which initiated waste segregation in the society. 

Besides, a health check-up camp was organised by the residents in collaboration with Aarvy Hospital. More than 300 people, including residents of several neighbouring societies and villages, thronged the venue and benefited from the health camp.

Vipul Lavanya, sector 81

A cultural programme marked Republic Day celebration at Vipul Lavanya. With patriotic songs and dances, young citizens put up a great show exhibiting the spirit of the day. Sunder Lal Yadav, president of the Sarpanch Association, was the chief guest for the occasion.

Sector 5

Residents of Sector 3, 5 and 6 celebrated the Republic Day with gusto. Anita Luthra Agarwal, a social worker, was the chief guest and hoisted the national flag at the community centre in Sector 5. A dance competition was also conducted for the children of the sector. All the winning contenders were awarded by the chief guest. 

Apart from the celebration, a health check-up camp was organised in collaboration with Columbia Asia Hospital from which 250 residents benefited.

SUDHA Society

The Day was celebrated by SUDHA open school at South City 2 in Gurugram. Children and volunteers of the NGO presented a cultural programme followed by the national anthem. Chief guest, Rajender Singh Goyal, director of a private company, distributed prizes among the children for participating in the programme. 

The programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony by G K Bhatnagar, president of the SUDHA society, who gave a plant to all the attendee as a token of appreciation. 

New Town Height, sector 90

Residents of New Town Height located in Sector 90 celebrated the occasion with great gusto. The highlight of the celebrations was flag hoisting by Lavanya, a specially-abled girl of the society, assisted by Col. Chand Saroha (Rtd). 

This was followed by songs and dances performed by children of society. A nukkad natak giving a strong message of keeping the surroundings clean was the highlight of the occasion. Games for children, women and senior citizens were also organised.
