Shipra Neo: Residents face harrowing time due to lift malfunctions

Ghaziabad: Residents of Shipra Neo, a residential condominium in Indirapuram, are having a harrowing time dealing with the inefficiency of the elevators forced upon them. On Friday morning, all three elevators of Block B of the society stopped working forcing residents to stay inside their flats especially on higher floors.

A pregnant lady in her thirties and a senior citizen had to visit doctor at that time. They could not come out of their flats because none of the lifts were working at that moment.

According to Rohit Gupta, President of AOA of the society, the ordeal of the residents with the lifts is not new. “We are facing this issue since last 6 months. We complained many times to the facility management but they never paid heed to this problem that we face on a daily basis,” he said.

The society has three blocks, in which, at least 300 families live. Each block has three lifts. In total, the society has 9 lifts. However, Gupta said that on an average, only five out of them work on a daily basis.

Last week, a similar incident happened in Block A. All the three lifts were dysfunctional. Another pregnant lady in her eighth month had to wait for an hour. 27-year-old Samreen Khan lives on 8th floor of Block A. She had to move to another flat in Block C and wait till the lift started working.

“I came back from doctor that day and I was in pain. I wasn't able to stand. I asked the guard to arrange for a chair. I was accompanied by my husband and mother-in-law. I waited there for half an hour. When the lift didn't start, I sent a message on the society's whatsapp group. A family living in Block C responded and offered me a shelter till the time lift started to function,” she explained her ordeal.

Same day, SR Sharma, a 74-year-old senior citizen living on 8th floor of Block A missed his evening stroll as all the lifts stayed dysfunctional. Sharma also said that the situation of lifts in the society is abysmal.

“The lifts get dysfunctional sometimes in morning hours and sometimes in evening hours. It happens so frequently that I miss my morning or evening walks every other day. Besides, there is always a fear of getting trapped inside the lift,” Sharma added.

CitySpidey tried to contact facility management of the society which is handled by the developer. However, our repetitive calls and messages went unanswered.
