Today marks the onset of Navratri 2022 and we know that a lot you are celebrating it traditionally by fasting for nine days. However, dietary restrictions for nine days call for special care you need to take of yourself.
So, here are some tips that you can follow for staying healthy while fasting fir Navaratri-
Dehydration is not something you want to encounter during this fasting season. Hydration levels should always be maintained to support appropriate body functioning and avoid exhaustion throughout the festivities. In the midst of the festivities, drinking enough of water can help you get through your fasting days.
Do not overeat
We understand that the fasting season's delights are tempting but consider twice before going overboard. It will not only defeat the objective of the fast if you do not control your eating habits, but it will also harm your digestive system. Fresh fruits and vegetables should also be a part of your diet.
Many sweets in the market are prepared with refined or processed sugar, which is unhealthy and something you should avoid as much as possible because it can lead to a variety of health issues. Instead, make your own sweets at home and attempt to use healthier sugar substitutes like jaggery and sugarcane.
When you fast, you may feel hungry any time of the day. When you feel the want to reach for the bag of chips, keep nutritious snacks like makhanas on hand. Foxnuts are high in vitamins and iron and are incredibly healthful you may also cook sweet potato fries or roast nuts. Water consumption at regular intervals might also help to reduce cravings.
When you have a limited amount of time to eat during the Navratras, it's critical to choose foods that are high in fiber and take longer to digest, allowing you to stay satiated for longer. Samak ka atta, Rajgir, singhara, pumpkin, and colocasia (arbi) are all good vrat-friendly fibrous alternatives.
Avoid fried and packaged food
We know that there are many easily available packet foods on the market, such as vrat namkeens, chips, and other items. But keep in mind that they are not good for your health at all and are derived from refined oil. This completely negates the point of fasting throughout these nine holy days.
During any fasting days, the body goes through a detoxification process and requires a lot of rest. So, make sure you get 7-8 hours of sleep every day. To detoxify your body, try to relax and keep yourself busy with some mindful stress- relieving activity.
