To avoid incidents of fire, the Gurgaon administration has earmarked three areas for sale and storage of fire crackers. These include the Goshala ground, the Sector 5 HUDA ground and the New Colony Dussehra ground.
The fire department, too, has been involved and officials have inspected the sites. A fire engine and officials will be deputed at the sites to handle any emergency.
According to officials, the shops have been allotted based on a draw conducted on October 26. Licences for 200 shops have been issued this year. No individual is to sell or store fire crackers and other explosive material without a licence under the Indian Explosive Act of 1884.
The allottees have been handed out a list of guidelines by the department. The stalls have been directed to keep enough sand and water to be able to put out a small fire.
According to Isham Singh, district fire officer, “Ground investigations had been carried out on the evening of October 25 by the department. This year, Leisure Valley has not been granted permission for the sale of crackers because of safety concerns.”
