The MCD has decided to rejuvenate and beautify 20 Ponds under first phase of AMRIT Sarovar Mission conceptualised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. AMRIT Sarovar Scheme has been started by the Prime Minister under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of our Independence. Under this scheme, 75 ponds will be made in each district of the country, which will address the problem of depletion of groundwater.
MCD has decided to complete the rejuvenation and beautification work of these water bodies by March 31, 2023. The ponds selected under the scheme are: Dwarka Sec-8 Jahazwala park spread in 1 acre, pond in palam village spread in 3.5 acres, pond in Masoodpur village spread in 2 acres, Pond in Pana Paposia in Narela spread in 1.25 acres, pond in Gazipur village spread in 1.5 acres, phase 2 work in Welcome lake spread in 32 acres, Naini Lake situated in Model Town spread in 6.5 acres to name a few. Naini Lake situated at Model Town phase 2 will be rejuvenated by increasing the height of its boundary wall, repairing it's footpath and by channelising the water from STP plant situated at Coronation Park.
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will provide the funds to MCD for rejuvenation of these 20 ponds. Water is necessary for sustaining Human Life. Taking inspiration from these words, STP will be installed near these ponds or the water from nearby STPs will be channelised to them. Besides this, rain water will also be channelised to these ponds which will help in recharging ground water.
MCD will beautify these Ponds by developing footpaths around its periphery and installing gazebos, sheds, benches which will help citizens to use them as spots for rest and recreation and they will also become aware about the importance of water.
