Vitamin C, an essential for health

"I don't have enough time" or "I don't feel like eating anything in the morning." are common excuses for skipping breakfast. Increasing workload, late nights and disturbed sleep have made it a low-priority meal in today's world. We are so preoccupied with other responsibilities that we overlook the most important aspect of our lives, which is our health.

There's an old adage that goes, 'eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper,' and you can bet it's there for a reason. If you're trying to lose weight, this proverb is probably true.

Healthcare experts unanimously agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After about eight to nine hours of sleep, breakfast literally means breaking the fast. Our bodies are famished and require refuelling because we do not consume anything after dinner until we wake up the next morning.

So, if you're only drinking a cup of tea, it's time to realise that it may not be enough to meet your needs, especially if you want to lose weight.

Pooja Bhandari Dietitian from Delhi, says, “A healthy breakfast is essential for losing weight quickly. Here are some essential reasons why you should never skip breakfast. If you don't eat anything in the morning, you may feel hungrier later in the day, which may lead to bingeing on junk food and sugary foods, which will only lead to weight gain.”

She added, “When your body does not get enough food in the morning, it stores fat as if there is a drought, causing you to gain weight rather than lose it. So skipping breakfast is not a good idea. Not eating breakfast can slow down your metabolism. A slow metabolism will only cause you to gain weight rather than lose it.”

Now, eating breakfast does not imply stuffing yourself with heavy parathas or junk food, but rather eating healthier foods that are also low in calories. Here are some helpful hints for eating breakfast to lose weight, especially if you're short on time-

  • Even if you're late, a glass of milk is simple to pour. It is said to be a healthy meal that will keep your stomach full for a longer time.
  • If you don't have time to pick up a glass, reach for a fruit that is high in fibre and protein. You can, for example, eat apples, bananas, pears, and so on. These fruits help you maintain a high level of energy throughout the day, as well as keep your tummy full for longer periods, preventing you from overeating.
  • A yoghurt smoothie is a great option for a quick breakfast. To make it more tasty and nutritious, add bananas, cherries, and other fruits.
  • You can have a bowlful of poha, upma or steamed idlis that will charm your taste buds and save you more full for longer.
  • Try not to consume preserved juices, rather press a glass of new squeezed orange in your kitchen.
  • Eat two boiled eggs, which are easy to make and healthy for you.

  • A bowlful of oats is all you want to need for a healthy start in the morning.
