New Delhi: Keeping in view the vision of “Swachh Bharat Mission” as well as with the aim of beautification of New Delhi area, special preparations were done by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to welcome New Year 2023. Thousands of visitors thronged Connaught Place which is located in the heart of Delhi to celebrate the New Year and the Council also welcomed them in its own style.

Satish Upadhyay, Vice Chairman, NDMC, told CitySpidey, “Keeping in mind the G20 summit, preparations are being made by the Health and Horticulture Department of NDMC to decorate New Delhi. We are all fully prepared in the new year to cherish the unity, integrity and culture of the country.”

He said that more than 50 NDMC staff were deployed by the Health department specially at Connaught Place and the number of garbage collection vehicles were also increased. Apart from this, in other places like Khan Market, Janpath Market etc, additional steps were taken for cleanliness on the occasion of New Year celebrations.

Upadhyay informed that 12 big floral boards with the message of New Year and G20 at prominent places like Palika Kendra, Mandi House Roundabout, Tilak Marg Entry Point, Hyderabad House, PM House Roundabout, Rashtrapati Bhavan Roundabout, 11 Murti, Teen Murti Roundabout, York Place Roundabout, Shanti Path-Panchsheel Marg Junction, Tilak Marg entrance, Kautilya Marg-Shanti Path roundabout were installed by the Horticulture Department.

Connaught Place Inner Circle, Minto Road Entrance, Ram Manohar Lohia Roundabout, Shershah Suri Marg, Tughlaq Roundabout, Mathew Circus, Sardar Patel Marg, Dalhousie Road, Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Near Leela Hotel, Q Point-Taj Mansingh Hotel , Aurobindo Marg-Prithviraj Road crossing etc., were also decorated with 12 small floral boards at prominent sites.

Windsor Place, Rashtrapati Bhavan, PM House, Kautilya Marg, Samrat Hotel and Teen Murti Roundabout were decorated with 24 floral fountain designs. These decorated boards contain the messages like G20, Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam, Nation-First, One-Earth, One-Family, One-Future etc.

Appreciating Chellaiah, Director Horticulture North, Rahees Ali, Director Horticulture South and Dr. Ramesh, Medical Officer of Health for the special work, Upadhyay said, “In New Year, we’ll have to work with the motto - “Nai Shapath, Nai Soch, Nai Umang”. It is a matter of great pride for us that the country is progressing fast, becoming self-reliant. We, all countrymen, need to prove ourselves. There is a need to live for the country, the culture of the country. We all need to work together for the national unity and integrity of the country. Let us protect our climate, work to advance our culture and the challenges facing the country in the coming days.”

Upadhyay appealed to the visitors to cooperate with the NDMC in keeping New Delhi clean & green. He also urged them to follow Covid guidelines issued from time to time by the Government of India to prevent the spread of new variant of Covid BF.7.
