The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is presented annually during the National Film Awards event by the Directorate of Film Festivals, a body set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. In 2012, the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival established its awards. The event is a private film festival for businesses. The National Film Awards' "DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD" should not be confused with this one. The recipient is being honored for their "great contribution to the progress and evolution of Indian cinema." Winners are selected by a panel of respected members of the Indian film industry.
