Parents sit outside Presidium School and teach kids as a sign of protest

But are the school authorities listening?

Parents sit outside Presidium School and teach kids as a sign of protest

In an attempt to get their voices heard against the annual and development charges by Presidium School, Indirapuram, a group of parents sat on protest in front of the school today. The protest lasted from 7 am until 4.30 pm.

Parents, along with their wards, displayed placards with messages against the commercialisation of education and the high-handedness of private schools. The school had also issued transfer certificates to 34 students, as their parents had not paid the annual and development charges to the school. The parents said they had already paid the tuition and transport charges, but despite that, their kids were not allowed to either sit for classes or take school buses. They maintained that they did not pay the annual and development charges, as they were arbitrary and unexplained.

“We also taught our children outside the school and sent teachers’ day messages to schoolteachers. We kept away from sloganeering, as we not want to disturb the classes going on inside,” said Meenakshi Singh, a parent.

However, the parents said they hadn’t received any word from the school. Parents had also recently met Gen (Retd) VK Sinha, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, about the issue.

“We will continue our protests till the authorities hear our problems,” said a parent.

The school authorities had previously said that the transfer certificates would be revoked only if the parents paid up the pending charges. Despite several attempts, the school could not be contacted over phone.
