Further, 6,245 cases of power thefts were reported from Noida also. Out of this, FIRs were registered in 3,365 cases whereas penalty of Rs. 544.53 lakh was collected from them in the form of revenue.
As far as power theft is concerned, Saharanpur has attained the first rank and Moradabad the second in Western UP. Ghaziabad too is not far behind and has attained the third position.
These raids are part of a massive campaign undertaken by the Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) against power theft. More than 56 thousand people have been caught in these raids conducted in fourteen districts of Western UP and the corporation has collected penalty of Rs. 3345.71 lakhs from them. Moreover, FIRs have been registered against more than 49 thousand people regarding power thefts.
The PVVNL’s campaign was conducted in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Gautam Budh Nagar, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Moradabad, Sambhal, Amroha, Rampur and Bijnor.
PVVNL MD Ashutosh Niranjan said that some people don’t pay electricity bills on time and indulge in power thefts when we disconnect their power supply. On the other hand, there are people who use far more electrical appliances than their meters could support. This puts a huge burden on their meters which are unable to handle the excess load.
Niranjan further said that consumers should use electricity properly apart from paying their bills on time.
