RESIDENT SPEAK: Part of service lane caves in at Sector-7 in Dwarka

A part of the service road in Sector-7 caved in all of a sudden at around 10 am on Monday. A ditch of more than 10 feet was created near Maxfort School and Avtar Apartments.

A major accident was averted by an alert guard of Avatar Apartments. While the spot was caving in, he stopped a vehicle and averted an accident.

As soon as the guard noticed that the service road was caving in, he immediately alerted everyone and placed branches of trees around the spot to alert the commuters about it.

With the help of community people, the guard informed the police and other authorities.

The teams of Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and police officials reached the spot to go for further action. Now, for the safety of the people, the whole service lane has been barricaded.

For the last two years, I have been raising the issue of the pathetic condition of roads and drains in Sector-7. But, nothing happened in the area. The caving in of the road appears to be a result of heavy downpour which happened on Sunday.

Water logging on this road seems to have caused damage to the road. Recently, this road had undergone work of laying electric lines and telecommunication cables by Delhi Metro, Bars, Jio and Airtel.

Residents have been complaining of a poor quality of work but no one is there to listen. One heavy rain has exposed civic authorities.

Now, I appeal to the people of Dwarka to raise such concerns as these things could prove fatal. I request to the authorities to take the subject seriously and make sure that such things do not happen. Meanwhile, the caved in portion must be repaired as soon as possible.
