Noida: Court grants bail to Army veteran after examining CCTV footage

The retired colonel, who was arrested by the Noida police on the charge of SC/ST prevention of atrocities act, got bail from the district court of Gautam Budh Nagar on Monday. The ex-Army officer was also charged with the molestation of an ADM’s wife.

However, the police found in the CCTV footages that the ADM and his aides had assaulted the Army veteran. A counter FIR was filed against the ADM and his aides. Following that, they were booked by police.

According to colonel CP Singh, president of Arun Vihar Society, said, “The court granted the bail after finding the charges as fake. We had also shared the CCTV footages to the court. He had no criminal history and he gave his entire life in the service of the country.”

“In the court, we said that it is a conspiracy against the retired colonel Virender Chauhan. The whole conspiracy was planned by the ADM and his family members. So, we wanted the bail and court also granted the bail,” the family member said.

The retired colonel was arrested on August 14 and sent to jail on the basis of a complaint filed by the wife of the Harish Chandra, the ADM of Muzzafarnagar.

In her complaint, the wife of the ADM has mentioned that she was harassed by the accused and three of his accomplices who also made the caste-based remark. The woman also said in her complaint that the accused also tried to kidnap her.

The ex-Army officer said that the police did not examine the matter properly and they even did not try to check the CCTV footage which was installed in the park of Sector-29.

To give the support to the retired colonel, the ex-Army officers also conducted a press conference on August 16 and demanded a judiciary inquiry on the matter.

According to Manish Saxena, the station officer of the Sector-20 police station, an FIR was registered under various IPC sections and sections of SC/ST prevention of atrocities act.

Retired Army officers said that the ADM of Muzaffarnagar was also an officer of Noida Authority in the past. Colonel Virender had lodged a complaint several times in Noida Authority regarding illegal occupation and construction but Noida Authority did not take any action on Chandra due to his clout. But, ADM filed a wrong complaint on the officer and due to which he was suffering.

After the DM order, the city police registered the case against the ADM, his wife, driver, gunner and two domestic help under the IPC Sections 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 147 (punishment for rioting), 307 (attempt to murder), 448 (punishment for house-trespass), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 504(criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication).

On August 19, the Noida police also arrested the gunner and servant of the ADM.
