Open burning of garbage continues unabated in Indirapuram

Dense smoke was seen emanating from a green belt behind Divyansh Pratham, a high-rise society in Indirapuram, on Saturday afternoon.

The residents of the society said that thick, dense smoke was coming from the burning of garbage from a dumping ground on the green belt. The smoke not only added pollutants into the air but also created nuisance for the residents living in the vicinity.

The authority's lackadaisical approach in containing unabated burning of garbage on the dumping ground could attract yet another court case. Two days back, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had fined Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) Rs 25 lakhs after the latter had failed to prepare an action plan for the segregation and recycling of waste dumped at Shakti Khand garbage dumping site.

In November 2018, a huge fire was reported from the site after which RWAs of the area had complaint against GMC in the NGT court.
