Dwarka: DDA develops Kabaddi play areas to keep up with sports' popularity

To keep up with the growing popularity of the game, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has developed dedicated areas for 'Kabaddi' and 'Tug of War' in the neighbourhood parks and green areas in Dwarka

DDA has developed three playing areas for Kabaddi and one for Tug of War. There areas have been developed in Sector 23, 19, 8 and 17.

Deputy Director of Horticulture, Jamil Ahmad said that these designated places are developed to promote the traditional sports.

“These kind of sports need small space. Hence, we made it at the corners of the parks. It would keep the community fit. Nowadays Kabaddi is getting popular again and with the development of these play areas, more players will be groomed to play at higher levels,” said Ahmad.

He said that DDA has also managed to develop a court of 'Tug of War' so that people could use it and play.

The initiative is being appreciated by the community people. RWAs and social organisations of the area have welcomed the step of DDA for the sports' promotion.

JC Malhotra , a resident of Welcome Group CGHD, Sector 3 said, “I am happy that such things are being taken up by DDA. They must development more such facilities in the area. Some parks should also be dedicated for sports only. This is the need of hour as children always use parks to play as there is lack of playing areas in Dwarka.”

Madhu Dagar, a resident of Crescent Apartments in Sector 18A suggested that the dead patch of green area near societies should be cleaned and used for such courts so that there is optimum utilisation of space.
