Residents complained that they had informed the fire officer about non-functional equipment installed in the society twice in the past.

Following a fire which broke out at 16th floor of a residential tower, residents of Lotus Boulevard Espacia, a high rise in Sector 100, Noida, registered a complaint with fire service cell of local police regarding dysfunctional fire equipment at the society. 

They informed that the fire alarm did not ring during the fire which happened on Tuesday. A washing machine caught fire due to electric short circuit and residents were clueless about the incident as the alarm bell did not ring.

Rajiv Nijhawan, a resident of the society told that they informed the fire service about the incident shortly after they came to know about the fire. But it took them over 45 minutes to reach the spot. Till then, they managed to douse the fire themselves.

He said, “We dialled the emergency number to inform the concerned officials about the fire in the society but the response was not quick.”

“We had called on the emergency number at around 4.10 pm but they reached the society at around 5 pm. Meanwhile, on-duty guards rushed to the spot and managed to douse the fire,” he added.

The house was locked from outside as the owners are working couple and they were not at home when the incident happened. 

Residents complained that they had informed the fire officer about non-functional equipment installed in the society twice in the past. But the officials have not taken action by directing the developer to improve the situation.   
    
He informed that over 100 families have been residing in residential towers. He said that he had registered a complaint with officials of Noida Authority and also Fire Service for action but an action is still awaited.
