The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has ordered all the upcoming residential colonies to set up convenience stores inside their premises. Officials of the GDA said that the decision has been taken to ease the traffic chaos caused due to the presence of these shops at the front portion of the societies.
GDA vice-chairperson Kanchan Verma said that convenience shops are meant for only residents of the societies as outsiders visiting the shops could result in traffic jam.
The GDA had issued notice to developers of four housing projects in Raj Nagar Extension in August over opening of shopping complexes for outsiders. They were ordered to build a wall on the front side of the complex to reduce the number of visitors to the shops. Later, it was found that the GAD-approved maps did not mention the wall in front of the shopping complexes. The developers were supposed to build a green area at the front and barricade it.
Since the shopping complexes lie outside the societies, many people from outside the societies visit the shops. They park their vehicles on the main road which leads to traffic jam.
