GreNo: Waterlogging cleared, not before it became a menace

After long last, the issue of waterlogging near Ryan International School in Tech zone 4 was resolved on Thursday by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA). It took the residents two weeks of constant follow-up with the authority.

On Thursday afternoon, a team of workers removed the water through suction by a machine and a wall was constructed to prevent sewage water from entering the low lying area.

Interestingly, the authority had provided a temporary solution when the same problem arose in April 2019, but did not care to connect the sewage drain to the main drain which caused waterlogging which could have solved the problem once and for all.

The action comes after a complaint was written to the authority on October 17 after several IGRS complaints by the residents went unheeded.

Talking to CitySpidey, residents of Greater Noida feared that if no permanent solution is evolved for waterlogging issue, lives of thousands of people will be at grave risk. As per the residents, the only solution to the problem is to connect the drain with the main sewage.

Notably, several cases of students of the Ryan School falling sick were reported in the past several weeks which alarmed the parents and prompted them to raise the issue with the authority. Meanwhile, the spot has become a breeding ground for diseases.
