Noida Authority has planned to instal rainwater harvesting systems in four public parks in Sectors 100, 120, 143 and 152. The total budget for the work is Rs 4 lakh. The work, however, will start only after the monsoons.

Omveer Singh, director of horticulture, Noida Authority, told City Spidey, that the work had been planned after monsoons as frequent rains could hamper the progress. The tender is yet to be floated.

"There are about 172 locations in Noida where rainwater harvesting systems are installed. However, half of them are not functional," said Singh. "Their repair works will also be carried out soon," he added.

Rainwater harvesting is the accumulation and deposition of rainwater for reuse on-site, rather than allowing it to run off. Rainwater can be collected and redirected to a deep pit. Its uses include water for gardens and domestic use with proper treatment. The harvested water can also be used as drinking water, longer-term storage and for other purposes such as groundwater recharge.
