Ghaziabad: In the wake of widespread protests against Citizenship Amendment Act at public universities of Delhi, Aligarh and Meerut, police administration of Ghaziabad imposed section 144 in the city, officials said.

SSP Ghaziabad, Sudheer Kumar Singh had insisted members of civil societies, digital volunteer force, and civil volunteer force to assist in maintaining peaceful environment in the district. 

Singh also cautioned people not to share unverified and misleading information on social media platforms and WhatsApp. “People spreading rumours and lies on social media platforms will be dealt as per the law,” he added.

Singh also informed that all the police officers have been directed to patrol the sensitive areas in the district. 

After cautions from the police department, many WhatsApp groups have changed their settings to keep check on fake and misleading information being shared by the members.

Besides, the private companies have also started issuing advisories for their employees to avoid route passing through or nearby Jamia University that became a hotbed of protests against CAA in New Delhi. 

Many offices based out of Okhla have asked their employees to work from home.
