Despite all the efforts of the competent authorities to make the district cleaner, not much has changed in Gautam Budh Nagar. The goal of a cleaner GB Nagar still seems too farfetched.

CitySpidey went around several areas of Noida and Greater Noida exploring the impact of intermittent cleanliness drives on the ground and found sanitation mess with piles of garbage and animal menace everywhere.

Speaking to a few passersby and residents of the areas, this reporter found the garbage accumulated despite authority trucks taking rounds of the areas collecting garbage every morning.

Sameedha, a daily commuter, told CitySpidey that she had been complaining about the menace for the last two months, but no one came forward to clear the garbage. "I pass by the area every morning and evening. In the morning, the garbage is lifted by Noida Authority vans. By evening, there is another pile of garbage on which these animals lap up for food."

He said we cannot manage our waste unless we start segregating it at our homes and teach our children to do so.

The animals scatter the garbage on the road before heading for other areas carrying diseases with them," Sameedha pointed out.

Garbage burning on the roadside in Surajpur near police quarters, Greater Noida

Rampant garbage burning goes on unhindered in some designated places despite complaints from residents. "The place where this garbage is being deposited was not a dump yard when we raised this issue. Later, the offenders they started burning the garbage," Suresh, a resident of a nearby locality, said.

He narrated how in May a cow was severely injured while sniffing through the garbage pile. The poor cow came in contact with fire. Not only this, the fumes emanating from the burning garbage add to the pollution in the area. We are already choking from it."

“Everyone dumps waste in front of my house,” rues an agitated 12-year-old. Raghav said, "We used to play on this plot once. But now, people come here and dispose of their waste and cows and dogs litter the entire area with the garbage. At times, the stench becomes unbearable, especially when it rains."
