No deployment of police at beat box since its inauguration 5 years back

Delhi: Around five years ago, Delhi Police had inaugurated a beat box just in front of Kirpal Apartment following the complaints of security issues by the Resident Welfare Association (RWA). But, it remained closed since its inauguration as there has been no deployment of police officials at the beat box so far.

Meanwhile, the society remained vulnerable to crime. Incidents of chain snatching has been rampant in the vicinity. Members of the RWA had written letters to the DCP, ACP and SHO many times in the past but nothing was done in this regard.

As per the residents, the JJ cluster is located nearby to the entrance gate of the society. They said that they are facing nuisance activities near the gate of the society.

General Secretary of society, Ajay Gupta said that the encroachment of JJ cluster has crossed its circle which was given to them. “No leader is ready to take action against them as they are vote bank,” he said.

Besides, the situation worsens during summer as anti-social elements gather near the gate of the society. They are often seen drinking alcohol near the gate. People refrain to visit the society due to this nuisance.

To address all these issues, the Delhi Police had inaugurated the beat box in presence of area councillor five years ago. When the residents asked the Delhi Police, they said that they don't have enough staff to deploy at the beat box.

A senior resident of the society said, “We are facing lots of problems due to JJ cluster right in front of the gate of the society. We have asked to construct a wall to separate both the premises so that we can live peacefully. Earlier, there were only 5-6 jhuggis (slum). Now, more than 2,000 people reside in the unauthorised slum.”
