Senior citizens struggle to sit at parks due to broken bench

New Delhi: Authorities need to be commended for their efforts to install open gyms at most of the parks in Delhi. You can see equipment like treadmill, skywalker, seesaw and many others at these parks.

But, on the other hand, it is really disappointing that there are not proper facilities for senior citizens visiting these parks. Senior citizens are often neglected as bench are often found in broken state at these parks.

Park at Vivek Vihar area is facing the same problem. The residents had also asked the councillor to repair the sitting chair and bench for senior citizens. But it has not been restored.

The park at C Block has many visitors. There are more than 1,000 people who live in nearby areas.

Local resident and a senior citizen, Anil Kumar said, “Open gyms are not for senior citizens. We need to sit and relax on sunny days. We often find it difficult to find a place to sit at the park.”

“We raised the issue with local councillor but nothing happened. Delhi government is busy installing new equipment at open gyms but maintenance of bench are completely neglected,” he added.
